pet-peeves:
1. the word pet-peeve.
2. couples that hold hands while walking.
3. along the same lines, couples that attempt to make out while walking (yeah, i've seen it..)
4. people who say "67 years young" and variants thereof.
5. people who disagree with an idea by saying "let's don't and say we did."
6. doing miserably on a test that you thought you did quite well on.
7. people who engage you in conversation though they have no intent to actually listen.
8. the way felt feels really cheap.
9. the way felt is really cheap.
10. the culture and fans of football. the sport itself i have no particular objections to.
11. House fans who feel the need to claim intellectual superiority over fans of Scrubs.
12. people who think that blatant personal insults are an appropriate method of political discussion.
13. people who think too hard about the realistic application of higher math to everyday life. there aren't any, get over it kthanks.
14. anytime when John Williams thinks to himself, "you know what would be great here? a perfect fifth. it's brilliant! because if it worked in Superman, E.T., Star Wars, and EVERY SCORE I'VE EVER WRITTEN, then why not here?"
15. self-righteousness.
16. intolerance disguised as tolerance (PFOX, for example).
17. anything requiring both a lightbulb and a battery.
18. people accusing others of hypocrisy. everyone is hypocritical in one way or another. so anyone who calls someone a hypocrite is being—guess what?—hypocritical.
19. jesus-related tee shirts, and any similar commercialization of religion. especially anything that asks, "WWJD?" ick.
20. the shirt i saw in a Pennsylvania gas station that haughtily proclaimed its owner "too blessed to be stressed." right, so if there's stress in your life, then God must not love you. and God's children are never stressed, i'm sure. you know what? if you had asked Jesus Christ when he was being crucified if he was stressed, i betcha he would have said yes. so next time, why not think about your perky little catchphrase before you put in on a t-shirt, mmkay, Johnny Jesus-Freak? kthanks.
21. when two different companies that make the same kind of product are owned by the same parent company. examples include Orbit and Wrigley's, Disney and Touchstone, and Abercrombie and Hot Topic. actually, the last two i'm mostly okay with because the two companies sell the same product but in completely different forms to completely different demographics. i'm also okay with the fact that Coca-Cola manufactures both Sprite and Dr. Pepper. this is because, while both are soft drinks, they have completely different flavors. you can't call them all different varieties of Coke, because the flavors aren't easily described. let's face it; Sprite™ is a much better name than Coca-Cola-Only-Clearer-And-Sweeter-And-Fruitier-And-Bearing-No-Actual-Resemblance-To-Coke™. so really, Orbit and Wrigley's is the only company combination that bothers me. because they're both gum. the two brands cater to the same demographic, namely, people who chew gum. and it's not like gum comes in hard-to-name flavors. "Tastes like mint? We'll call it mint!" maybe Orbit mint is different from Wrigley's Doublemint. fine. But you don't call it Orbit mint. know what you call it? Wrigley's singlemint. there. isn't that much easier than creating a whole new company, name, logo, package design, and ad campaign? you'd think so. well, at least i'd think so...
